Welcome to the Fall 2006 Issue of Global
Media Journal, devoted to "Women and the Media" and
globalization issues. Theresa Carilli and Jane Campbell of
Purdue University Calumet
are the Guest Editors of the Main Research section and Colette
Morrow of Purdue University Calumet is the Guest Editor of the Graduate Research section.
The Spring 2006 issue of Global Media
Journal, to be edited by Lee Artz and Evelyn Bottando
of Purdue University Calumet,
will present outstanding papers presented at the
Global Fusion Conference,
Chicago, Illinois, September 29-October 1, 2006.
In accordance with the Thompson ISI's technical
guidelines for electronic publications and in order to enhance the
process of publishing, accessing, printing, and achieving of the
contents of GMJ, we have re-structured the entire web site,
including logo, navigation, layout, and other components.
The structural improvements and design of GMJ have
been accomplished by Christopher Kosovich of
Kosovich Media who is also a
graduate communication major at Purdue University Calumet.
Lisa Pennington has significantly improved the GMJ contents and
layout. They have spent a great deal of time and energy on
overhauling the entire web site and, in fact, are still working on
making further improvements. I commend their dedication,
enthusiasm, and professional approach.
I am pleased to inform you that the Global Media
Journal (The Global Network of Communication Scholars) is
rapidly expanding and includes the following editions:
African, American,
Arabic,
Australian, Chinese,
Indian,
Mediterranean,
Persian,
Polish, Spanish, and
Turkish.
Other editions will soon become available. My
goal is to eventually establish editions in most major languages and
regions of the world.
Global Media Journal, advised by an editorial
board of prominent international communication scholars, publishes
refereed papers, invited papers, commentaries, book reviews, and
announcements. It also, offers an opportunity to graduate
students to publish their work online. Furthermore, the
Dialogue section is intended to reflect diverse perspectives related
to mass media and global communication.
Global Media Journal, hosted by the
Purdue University Calumet,
Hammond, Indiana, USA, is currently an open-access publication
dedicated to exploring the world of communication. Although
the Journal will be published in Spring and Fall of each
year, its contents--except for the scholarly and graduate research
sections--will be updated regularly.
I hope you will find the contents of this issue
informative, engaging, and rewarding. Utilizing the latest
modes of digital communication and audio-video streaming, Global
Media Journal promises to be innovative, interactive, diverse,
comprehensive, and truly global.
Your suggestions and comments for improving the
contents and design of the Journal will be appreciated.
With warm regards,
