The Spring 2003 issue of the, edited by Antonio C. La Pastina of Texas A&M University and Joseph Straubhaar of the University of Texas at Austin, sets another milestone in the emerging world of online publication and scholarly research. This issue focuses on the emergence, popularity, and impact of the Latin American Telenovelas.

The Fall 2003 issue, to be edited by Nancy E. Snow of the California State University at Fullerton, will be devoted to Propaganda, Terrorism, and Media.

The Spring 2004 issue, to be edited by Leo Gher of Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, will include a selected number of papers presented at the Global Fusion Conference in Austin, Texas, October 24-26, 2003.

The Fall 2004 issue, to be edited by Hussein Amin of the American University in Cairo, Egypt, will focus on the Middle East media.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Sweety Law of Texas A&M International University, for accepting to serve as the Guest Editor of the Graduate Research section of the Journal, commencing fall 2003.

My thanks to Harmeet Sawhney of Indiana University at Bloomington for serving as the Guest Editor of the Graduate Research section of the Journal in fall 2002 and spring 2003.

Kathleen Boilek, a graduate student in the Department of Communication and Creative Arts, deserves to be recognized for her technical and web related assistance in organizing, formatting, and enhancing the spring 2003 of the Journal.

This Journal, advised by an editorial board of prominent International Communication scholars, publishes refereed papers, invited papers, book reviews, and announcements.  It also, offers an opportunity to graduate students to publish their work online.  Furthermore, the Journal is interactive and serves as an Open Forum for discussing issues related to mass media and global communication.

Global Media Journal, hosted by the Department of Communication and Creative Arts at Purdue University Calumet, Hammond, Indiana, USA, is dedicated to exploring the world of communication.  Although the Journal will be published in Spring and Fall of each year, its contents--except for the scholarly and graduate research sections--will be updated routinely.

I started this project in 1999 while working on my textbook, Global Communication and a companion web site, Global Media Monitor.  Hence, what you are about to see and read is the culmination of several years of planning, coordination, and collaboration with numerous friends and colleagues throughout the world.  I hope you will find the contents of this groundbreaking journal useful and rewarding.  Utilizing the latest modes of digital communication and audio-video streaming, GMJ promises to be innovative, interactive, diverse, comprehensive, and truly global.

Your suggestions and comments for improving the contents and design of the Journal will be appreciated.

With warmest regards,

Yahya R. Kamalipour

Managing Editor
