Please look at the excerpts from our previous issues to get an idea of the type of work we publish.  See the general guidelines below to find out the specific types of work we accept and who is eligible to submit work.

You may submit your work in one of three ways. Please remember to include a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you submit work in hard copy. Work not accompanied by a SASE will not be considered.

1. Take submissions to the English Departmental Office in CLO 216.

2. Mail submissions to:

3. Submit online. Attach a Microsoft Word document formatted according to the guidelines below, and send the email to: skylarkpuc@calumet.purdue.edu.

General Guidelines

1. Students, faculty, staff, and alumni of Purdue University Calumet are invited to submit work to  Skylark.  We also accept submissions from the greater PUC community of Northwest Indiana. 

2. Skylark accepts original poetry, short fiction (stories or novel excerpts), personal essays, critical essays and book reviews.

3. All entries must include the author's name, address and phone number on the first page.

4. Please include a short (1 or 2 paragraphs) biography of yourself with your entry.

5. Skylark reads manuscripts from September 1st through April 15.  Skylark goes to press in May.

6. Purdue University acquires first-time North American rights to work published in Skylark.  After publication, all rights revert to the author.

7. Authors receive 2 copies of the issue of Skylark in which their work appears.

Poetry Submissions

Poets may submit up to 3 poems.  Poetry submissions must be typed and single-spaced, with one poem per page. Author's name and address should appear on the first page of each poem.

Fiction and Non-Fiction Submissions

Works must be typed and double-spaced.  Author's name and address should appear on the first page of the manuscript. Please staple pages. We will accept up to 2 submissions that are each no more than 3000 words.
