English 108 is an advanced composition course that meets the requirements of both English 104 and 105.  This course focuses on academic reading, research strategies, rhetorical considerations as applied to genre, and the style and documentation formats of different academic disciplines.

Throughout the semester you will focus on developing your writing process as you analyze rhetorical situations, find and evaluate such sources as newspapers, magazines, critical commentary, research reports, websites, and especially scholarly journals.  You will write reports, commentary, synthesis, analysis, and academic argument.  English 108 encompasses both the goals and objectives for English 104 and 105.

Topics for reading and writing in this course will vary.

Placement:   Students with an “A” or “B” high school average and a verbal SAT score of 600 or higher are placed in 108.
