Students who have graduated high school within the past five years will be placed as follows:

-- Students with an "A" or "B" average in high school English and a verbal SAT score of 600 or higher will be placed in ENGL 108.

-- Students with an "A" or "B" average in high school English will be placed in ENGL 104.

-- Students with a "C" average in high school English will be placed in ENGL 100.

-- Students with averages lower than a "C" in high school English will be placed in 025 and 026 in the Academic Achievement Academy.

-- Students who have been out of school for five years or longer will take a placement test to determine placement into 025, 026, 100, or 104.

 

Progression through English courses is as follows:

Completing Academic Achievement Academy courses with a passing grade = placement in ENGL 100
Completing ENGL 100 with an A or B = Go to ENGL 105
Completing ENGL 100 with a C = Go to ENGL 104
Completing ENGL 100 with a D or F = Repeat ENGL 100
Completing ENGL 104 with an A, B, or C = Go to ENGL 105
Completing ENGL 104 with a D or F = Repeat ENGL 104

Not all majors require ENGL 105. For a list of majors that do not require ENGL 105, click here.
